A bronze bobcat and a bell that hearken back to the roots of Butler Elementary greet students every day as they head to school. The building, which was rebuilt as part of a $250 million bond approved in 2010, has maintained a theme of the value of remembering your roots. School leaders and members of the community at Butler were mindful of how far the school has come since it was a one-room schoolhouse 139 years ago, and community members commissioned the bronze statue to inspire students to do their best. In its new iteration, Butler Elementary features 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains and learning suites designed to mirror some of the world’s most famous canyons, from Buckskin Gulch in Utah to Keystone Canyon in Alaska. The new school has lots of natural light, technologically-equipped classrooms and an outdoor courtyard.
